02 About
Shapesetter is a puzzle game about programming a machine. Each level hands you raw shapes at an input and asks for finished products at an output: a red quarter-circle, a striped square, a welded Mondrian. You place arms on the board, give each one a single tool, and write it a tape of instructions. Press run and the machine loops, shape after shape, until the quota is filled.
Nothing happens out of sight. Every stroke of paint, every cut and every weld is a move you can watch an arm make, on a page of cream paper and flat printer's ink. Shapes are exact geometry, arcs, sectors and straight edges, sharp at any zoom.
A working machine is only the start. Every solution is measured in cycles, instructions, footprint and cost, and the best ones are small, quick and strange.
- Five tools, one per arm: grab, paint, cut, weld and extrude.
- Every move is visible. No black boxes, no shapes that change out of sight.
- Exact geometry: arcs, sectors and straight edges, crisp at any size.
- Optimize each solution for cycles, instructions, footprint and cost.
- Levels after Kandinsky, Mondrian and the Bauhaus.
- Play with keyboard and mouse or a controller.
